After several years of testing and commercial-scale trials, M.H.1-07 is now ready to be offered to growers.
M.H.1-07 is a new Northern Highbush blueberry premium variety from the Mattivi breeding programme, developed for the early-season segment and positioned as an interesting alternative to others early varieties. Commercial-scale trials have already been carried out, including production of pots.
Why is M.H.1-07 attracting so much interest?
According to the first commercial experiences, the variety offers several interesting characteristics:
Early maturity, in the same general harvest window as others early varieties
More uniform ripening, potentially making harvesting more efficient
Fruit can remain on the plant for 2–3 weeks after colour change without losing firmness
The fruit continues to increase in size and develops a more pronounced aroma as it ripens
Crunchy and sweet fruit, with excellent fresh-market characteristics
Very good shelf life, with fruit maintaining good organoleptic characteristics after approximately one month of traditional cold storage
Productivity and average fruit size reported as comparable to other early varieties from the first production years
Particularly suitable for areas with medium-to-high chilling requirements.
One of the most interesting characteristics is the possibility of keeping the fruit on the plant for longer after colour change. This could provide growers with greater flexibility in harvesting, particularly when labour availability or market conditions require a different harvesting schedule.
M.H.1-07 is now open for expressions of interest
We are now collecting expressions of interest from blueberry growers and agricultural companies interested in planting M.H.1-07.
At this stage, I would like to understand the level of interest and the potential demand.
Based on the expressions of interest received, we will then discuss:
quantities of plants available in pots
plant prices and commercial conditions
potential planting projects
If you are considering a new blueberry plantation or replacing part of your current production, this could be an interesting variety to evaluate.
